Michael Ormiston is Britain’s foremost Mongolian Khöömii (overtone) singer, a remarkable style

where one person sings two notes at the same time! He has traveled to Mongolia six times (1993/94/97/2000/05/6)

where he studied Khöömii with Tserendavaa, Gereltsogt, Ganbold, Sengedorj, Tsogtbaatar,

the “Cream” of Mongolia’s Khöömii singers. In 1994 Michael was given the blessing by Gereltsogt

to teach the basic practices of Khöömii Singing.

Michael Ormiston has been composing, performing, teaching and writing about music for many years.

He is a multi-instrumentalist playing his rare collection of Mongolian instruments including the

Morin Khuur (Horse head Fiddle), Tobshuur (lute), Tömör Khuur (Jaw’s Harp), Khulsan Khuur,

Limbe (Tranverse flute), Yatag (zither), Tsuur (end blown flue).

Among the other instruments he plays are, Tibetan Singing Bowls, Symphonic Gongs, Saz (Turkish long necked lute),

Flat backed Bouzouki, Ney (Turkish end blown flute), Jew’s harps,Live electronics……

His voice can be heard on “The Golden Compass” Hollywood film; David Attenborough’s wildlife series Planet Earth,

& in concert by H.H. the Dalai Lama.

Candida Valentino is currently one of the only western women to have been blessed to teach Mongolian Khoomii overtone singing

by her teacher Tserendavaa. She traveled to Mongolia in 2000 with Michael Ormiston to experience the land,

the people, their lifestyle and where the tradition of Khoomii comes from, West Mongolia, Chandman sum.

She has also met on several occasions the Tuvan Throat Singing Band Huun Huur Tuu, and has been inspired to learn the style

of singing called Khargyraa, a sub-harmonic style or undertone singing. A highlight of Candida.s musical career was working

with the RSC in Rupert Goulds' 2006/7 production of The Tempest, where she sang Khöömii and Khargyraa

within the musical compositions created by Adam Cork.

She leads workshops throughout the UK and Europe with Michael Ormiston, teaching Mongolian Khöömii singing,

Bija Mantra Sanskrit seed syllable chanting, Tibetan Singing Bowls, and Symphonic Gongs.

Candida completed The Healing Power of Sound Teacher Training with Chris James back in 1998

and is very enthusiastic to pass on what she has experienced within the Sound Transformation and conscious listening world,

in workshop situations, concerts and recordings.
