Mongolian Khőőmii (overtone)
singing, Mongolian
Khargiraa (Undertone) Singing,
Western Overtone Singing, Western Undertone Singing. Group Toning,
Harmonic Tuning, Harmonic Chords, Harmonic melody,
harmonic Sound baths, Syntonic harmonic resonance, deep listening games.
Imagine sitting consciously in circle with a group of people intent on
breathing, tuning in and singing together to the sounds of the universal
harmonic series. One individual is inspired to sing a resonant tone from which
emanates a pure overtone (harmonic). Their listening focused upon the prefect
interval descended from the infinite harmonic source. Then the person next to
them sings the same resonant drone and in turn isolates the same harmonic as
their neighbour. A perfect ritual sonic relationship has been set up between
the two singers, drone and harmonic in dual unison. male and female, Yin and
yang, the dot in the circle.
This state of graceful deep listening is the beginning of a harmonic
choir. The harmonic voice retreat will immerse the participants in this truly
magical vibratory world, beyond and yet connected to all cultures.
During
the five days a regular practice of moving Chi Gung, Theta wave Breathe and voice
work
will
be set up to prepare for the day. And in the evening dvds and videos
exploring Mongolian Khőőmii,
Cymatics and sound healing will be shown.
The
retreat is open for people who have attended any of Michael’s Khőőmii
evening courses or one-day workshops. An Individual Lesson is required if not.

Michael
Ormiston is Britain’s foremost
Mongolian Khöömii (overtone) singer, being one of the only non-Mongolians able to sing
Khöömii.
His voice has been used in a Hollywood film, David Attenborough’s Acclaimed
wildlife series Planet Earth, and heard in concert by H.H. the Dalai Lama. He travelled to Mongolia 5 times since 1993 where he studied with
Khöömii singers Tserendavaa, Gereltosgt, Tsogbadraa & Tsengedorj.
He
is the only European been blessed to teach the basic practices
of Mongolian Khöömii by Tserendavaa &
Gereltsogt.
Michael
has facilitated Khöömii and Overtone singing workshops worldwide including the
SOAS summer school for the past two years. Michael wrote, researched and
presented, “Echoes from Blue Heaven”, a series of 4 programmes about Mongolian
Traditional music for BBC Radio3 and “The Whispering of the Stars”, the first
major series (6 part) of radio programmes about Siberian Music for BBC Radio3.
For
the past fifteen years Michael has led workshops, evenings and therapy sessions
in Relaxation, Meditation and Deep Listening using Tibetan Singing Bowls,
Gongs, therapeutic sound massages and sacred sound concerts.
Candida
Valentino
originally trained and worked as a visual artist and costume designer for dance
and opera. In 1991 she began studying and experiencing sound therapy, working
with toning, overtone singing and voice work as a tool for healing. She went on
to train with Chris James and completed The Power of Sound Teacher Training in
1999. She has for the last five years played with Don Conreaux and his
Mysterious Tremendum Ensemble, and has also attended Raga singing workshops
with Gilles Petit.
Candida
studied Mongolian Khöömii singing with Michael Ormiston in 1999. She then
travelled to Mongolia with him in 2000 to meet his teacher Tserendavaa and has
now been blessed to teach Khöömii. She is probably the only European woman to
have developed singing the Khargiraa undertone style of throat singing.
Candida
Valentino currently works as a Chavutti Thirumal massage therapist, overtone
singer, Tibetan Singing Bowl and Gong practitioner.
She
uses healing sounds both in individual sessions as well as concerts in the UK
and Europe. With Michael she has performed for H.H. the Dalai Lama, The exiled
prime minister of Tibet and in 2002 toured Europe with her Mongolian Khöömii
Teacher, Tserendaava. Candida is presently developing sound transformations
workshops with Michael Ormiston
